The long waited film Aayirthil Oruvan has hit the screen for this Pongal 2010. And almost reviews both positive and negative started to revolve around. Two and half years of team’s hard work is out to watch for the audience. But is the wait really worth?
Before answering the question, let us check out the story of the movie Aayirathil Oruvan.
Lavanya (Andrea) and Anitha (Reema Sen) are Archaelogists. Both with a troupe of government forces go on a voyage to an island in Vietnam to trace Prathap Pothen, an archeologist and lavanya’s father. He vanishes into thin air in his attempt to find a priceless statue of the Pandias which was kept in a secret location by Chola Prince, a thousands of years ago (these stories are revealed in second half of the movie).
Sukumaran (Karthi) leads a team of coolies to help lavanya, anitha and their team in finding the truth.
As they cross oceans and enter forests, suspense and thrill starts over there. At one point of time, Sukumaran, lavanya and anitha are left alone from their team. They find an ethnic Tamil group living in the island which is ruled by a king (Parthiban).
The people is the island decides to kill those 3 (karthi, andrea and reema) and when they are about to be killed, Lavanya (reema) reveals a truth. It takes a lengthy second half and the remaining story.
Karthi’s role seems to be a similar one that he played in “Paruthiveeran” but with different style. He has done his part well.
Reema Sen has done good job by giving right emotions when needed. She also looks more glamorous.
Andrea has come really good and quick. Her body language and mannerisms are perfect.
Parthiban takes all the applause in the movie. He seems to be a perfect fit for the character and lending solidity to the script is his character.
Films on such a genre are rare for tamil cinemas and the film maker Selvaragavan takes all the credits for the movie. He strives for perfection in every frame and seems to have taken the lead to fill the void with “Aayirathil Oruvan”.
The cinematographer Ramji is the one to be appreciated for his scintillating stuff. His lens speaks poetry and at the same time splits venom when required.
G.V Prakash’s songs have already made a good impact over the audience. Anyhow the background score by him has fit the scenes.
Now to answer the question, But is the wait really worth? The answer is both ‘yes’ and ‘no’ as the movie aayirathil oruvan is a mixture of both sweet and sour, surprises and disappointments.
